End of Trip

On Friday we put into the city of Split, Croatia. I have to admit I was a little nervous about going to a Balkan state but it was actually a very wonderful place. We started off visiting the Roman city of Salona just outside the city of Split. We walked around the ruins of the sarcaphogi. Out of the 700 that have been found, only one has been found intact. All the others have previously been looted for treasure.

Next we went to the Medieval town of Trogir which is on a teeny island in the middle of the city. You can walk from end to end in less than 5 minutes. By this point we were all out of spending money, but we did enjoy some gelato. Yummy! I agree that it is waaaayy better than ice cream! And we stopped at a little sidewalk cafe and had some pizza.

This clock has been continually running for 600 years! and it still tells the correct time.

Arriving back at the port we were all pretty tired, but Donna and Jenny insisted that we explore some of Split itself since it was most likely our only chance. So we visited the shops and the palace of Diocletion (who was NOT a very nice man!) and the cathedral before heading back to the ship for our last night at sea.

Saturday we arrived back in Venice. We would have liked to have taken a taxi into the city since we had some time before our flight, but we weren't allowed to check our bags that early, so we had to wait at the airport for a few hours before heading home instead. When we arrived in San Francisco we found out our flight to Portland was delayed because they were waiting for a crew from Cancun, so our flight that should have left at 10:30p.m didn't leave until almost 3 a.m. Of course at that time there are no food places open so we couldn't get anything to eat and I swear they turned off the heat in the building also so everyone nearly froze to death waiting. So we were glad to get home and get some sleep. Although we didn't get much before we had to go pick up the kids and take them home. So in 48 hours we spent maybe 2 of them sleeping. We loved our trip but were really glad to get home again.

I'm glad you guys had such a great time. Beautiful photos!
