Wednesday
Wednesday found us back on the mainland at the town of Katakolon. We took a bus over to Ancient Olympia and walked around. John and Jenny even jogged around the track! Much of the site was standing until the 60's when an earthquake hit and knocked down much of it. The Temple of Zeus is currently under repair and one column is finished. But we saw the practice areas and the staduim and walked through what is left of the Temple.

Olympia - practice area
Column of Temple of Zeus
Alter of Hera. This is where the Olympic flame is lit and taken to Athens for its trip around the world to the current host city.
Stadium
Archway leading to the stadium where the athletes would pass through, just like athletes do today!
Statue of Nike, patron Goddess of the Games
Old Town Olympia where we went shopping afterwards.
Also some of the figurines that have been unearthed at Olympia. Supposedly they were childrens toys. Action figures of their favorite athletes!
Cute church in Olympia
